I’ve certainly had this problem! It seems that cucumbers either have a really good year or they don’t. Each year, I stand ready, just in case, with a small collection of pickle recipes. I usually plant the old-fashioned cukes, with a prickly thick skin and a lovely firm, juicy flesh. They are good for eating fresh, in salads, and they pickle well. I also love the Persian cucumbers which are best fresh, but make good bread and butter slices.
